IceBear: Research Data Management
for Structural Biology

About IceBear

IceBear (Integrated Crystal-data-tracking Enhancing Biochemistry Education And Research) is a laboratory information management system for structural biology. It is particularly aimed at fulfilling the Research Data Management needs of small and medium-sized academic labs while also making the actual science easier.

IceBear is being actively developed in-house at Biocenter Oulu and the University of Oulu's Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine. The diverse needs of researchers ranging from early-stage student to professor drive continuous development.

IceBear is a computational resource of Instruct-ERIC.

Collaboration

IceBear is developed at Oulu, but we work closely with our partners at University of Helsinki, University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University (Turku, Finland), and Weizmann Institute of Science (Rehovot, Israel) to ensure that IceBear fulfils the needs of the wider community.

We work with the ISPyB consortium to integrate IceBear with their synchrotron systems. In particular, we collaborate with Diamond Light Source, ESRF, and MAX IV.

Industry collaboration

We work with Formulatrix to ensure that IceBear works smoothly with their Rock Imager imaging devices.

We are also working with manufacturers to enable exchange of crystal co-ordinates and metadata between IceBear and their plate scanners.

If you'd like IceBear to work with your hardware, get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Funding

IceBear development is supported by Academy of Finland project 328117.

Integration with ISPyB synchrotrons has been supported as a call1 Instruct-ULTRA project of University of Oulu (Finland), Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) and Diamond Light Source (UK) (Grant 731005), an EU H2020 project to further develop the services of Instruct-ERIC.
